Name here Miss Laura

Working with kids is something I've always enjoyed doing if they were the right age. Something about infants up to the age of 2 never really appealed to me, but any age above that is a joy for me to work with.

I trained to be a Day Care Provider while I was in my senior year of High School. My first thought when I signed up for it was "I'm going to dread this." I felt uneasy at first. I'd baby sat for many families until that point, but never participated as an assistant for a class. I had thought that my class would come before my training hour. The opposite proved to be true when I showed up for the class and got sent to the day care.

Needless to say, the jitters that I felt that day are long in the past. It only took me about a week before I settled into the training, full force. I'm not sure when it was decided that this was most definitely what I wanted to do, but by the time I graduated High School I knew I wouldn't want to do anything else.

It's been said that whatever you think of when you wake up in the morning is the job you would be most happy in. I'm not sure where that came from at all, nor do I recall where I heard it, but I seriously doubt that applies to me. The things I think up when I'm first awake range from work to twenty or thirty other things. Still I've thought of this advice a few times in my life.

Every once in a while I think of putting together my writing and teaching energies into creating a collection of works for my students. Each year I help them create a story of their own. Every child in the class designs one page, both plot and picture. It made quite an amusing little book and gave me one of my moments to wonder if maybe I shouldn't do a little Children's Writing on the side. So at the beginning of this year I began a series with Thelma Mouse, named after my Great Aunt who encouraged me to continue with my writing. I'm seeking publishers now, as I work on the illustrations.

I've done volunteer work for UNC Hospitals and the local Animal Shelter in the past, but working with children has been the best of all of my various jobs. Where it goes from here only time and the Prophets can tell.

Now you know more about the Terran's real life job, thanks for stopping by to see it.
